The news has been nothing if not overbearing with info about the Olympic Torch Run. They will flood us with every detail, right down to what each carrier had for breakfast. It is a supreme exercise in how to take the utterly meaningless and portray it as The Most Significant.

Of course, I'm just jealous; I wanted to be a torch bearer myself.

No, really.

I'd dust off my faded red robe with the sigils and moth holes ...
Don my crumpled and battered pointy hat with the word "WIZZARD" nearly illegible upon it ...
And run through the streets holding the Flaming Thing aloft.

But as my wife reminded me, it is supposed to be a family event and the sight of someone racing past the crowds screaming "Ohshitohshitohshit! I'mgonnadie! I'mgonnadie! I'mgonna DIE!" is probably not the image they want to project.

It'd be accurate, though.
